Millions of American’s are drowning in debt. Often times, they don’t realize just how much debt they truly have. Once they do realize that their debt is out of hand, they begin looking for debt relief options. There are a variety of different ways to eliminate your debt and stop creditors from harassing you.

Debt settlement is one option when looking for debt relief. Debt settlement, also referred to as debt negotiation is a process where you creditors will agree on a lump sum, as payment in full. For example, if you currently owe $15,000 to a creditor, they may reduce the amount of debt you owe to only $7,000. When you take into consideration that the interest was not factored into the full amount, then your savings is even higher. In return for your one lump sum payment, your creditor will agree to contact the credit bureaus and let them know you no longer owe them money.

Another option for debt releif is debt reduction. With debt reduction, you may only claim your unsecured debt for this plan. Commonly, unsecured debt is medical bills, credit cards, collection accounts and balances that are left over from repossessions.

If you are drowning in debt, you may want to consider debt consolidation. With debt consolidation, you put all of your debt, into one easy to make payment. This will help with debt releif, by lowering your monthly payment, as well as lowering your interest rates. Instead of paying a variety of different interest rates, you are simply paying one.

You can consolidate your debt in a variety of different ways. If you have equity in your home, you can apply for a home equity loan. The equity then helps to pay off all of your other debt. Another option is to obtain a personal loan. Again, the money you receive can be used to pay off your debt. You can also consolidate all of your credit onto one credit card. If you choose this option, make sure you choose a credit card with a zero percent or extremely low interest rate.

There are debt relief books that can help you in your situation. You can check with your local library for available books. As well, your local book store will have a variety of different options in debt relief books.

When looking for debt releif, make sure that you examine all of your different options. This will ensure that you choose the one that will work best for you, in your particular situation. Once you have eliminated the amount of debt you have, you finally feel a sense of freedom. It is important that once you have found your way out of debt, that you remain that way.
